Looking outside the window as I had my evening tea, the fresh green leaves on the tree outside my house caught my eye. I ask myself: wasn’t it just a month ago that the branches looked so dull and lifeless? Everything around was almost black and white or gray, courtesy of the winter. As spring approaches, the air in the sky suddenly smells different; the ground beneath my feet is firm and warm; and plants and trees begin to emerge. What a wonderful feeling it is to watch this phenomenon!!I continue to gaze outside and let my thoughts flow. For a moment, it’s almost like seeing my life in the same way, or must I say, our lives. Don’t we all like the surrounding trees?
Spring is like our baby-to-childhood years, when we are just starting out to see the world. It’s the time of exploration without fear, curiosity, and excitement; it’s all play and fun when you are young, isn’t it? Just like the light-colored leaves, we are fresh and vibrant, and all around us there’s joy, mercy, and celebration.
Summer follows right after, and trees, bushes, and flowers all start to bloom and thrive in myriad ways. It’s time for stability and grounding. I see our lives as well. Years of education, planning, and growing. Family, friends, love, heartache, career, travel, etc. we experience this in abundance, and it seems like it’s going to last forever. Like a much-anticipated summer that’s cherished and lived up, we live our best years during adulthood. Our mind and body have the energy and spirit that’s so amazing.
Then, as fall approaches, the mature trees and all the plant life around them start to shed themselves off, but not before a pompous show of vibrant colors. Your eyes compete to pick the best out of the best. It’s nature at its best!! Isn’t it a time when things start to take a different turn for us, and we start to reflect on our lives and plan for our future? It’s when we let go of things that are no longer in our control that we try to live a better and happier life. Consciousness, self-awareness, and spirituality—a new phase.
Then comes winter, bringing dread and cold but also a time to rest and unwind. It’s a season that screams—put a stop to a few things, and it’s alright not to be doing anything else.
Just like how age will take over us, we need time to sit back and enjoy the little things we have with friends and family. Nothing crazy needs to go on; just cherish a life lived and enjoy every moment.
Everyone’s got a different perspective on life, and watching the tree today has me feeling and thinking about all this. I look at myself, and now I’m somewhere on the bridge between summer and fall, and all I want to do is live every single moment to the fullest.
Our environment has a lot to offer, there’s so much to learn and grow from what’s around us. I sign off now with a lot of respect to the forces of nature and the cosmos that we all share.
Nature is like a river that flows in a circle. Our lives are ripples that appear briefly in the stream only to fade, but remain part of the river.
