We are all one in life and death

We are all one in life and death. The title speaks for itself, but how many of us truly understand and believe in this? Sadly, not many are in this world.

A recent article that made the headlines was about a nail bomb that exploded in London many decades ago. It was planted in a low-income suburb, targeting a particular community. One of the survivors, many years after recalling the incident, narrated the before and aftermath of the incident. His nostalgic memories of that day are fathomable. He ended the narration; that’s the title of my post.

It had me thinking about how we humans, from inception to the present day, have been fighting over everything and anything. Look around us, and you’ll see countries at war with each other or communities against each other. It’s always either for ownership of land, a show of power, dominance over people, the rich over the poor, political power, corruption, religious beliefs—the list would never end.

The little time we get to live on this planet is wasted on things that have no end. Or maybe one day it will come to an end when more than half of this world is gone and there’s nothing left to rage over. It’s wishful thinking for many of us.

The most inevitable aspect that is common for all of us humans, or animals too, for that matter, is that what comes has to go one day. Birth and death are probably the ultimate truths that we stand witness to. We may be separated by nations, gender, race, or ethnicity at our time of birth, but death is indifferent to it all. Life holds value in our hearts and minds; every single individual strives to make something out of himself or herself. Results are not always pleasant or as expected, but we must try.

Death has neither a time nor a place; there’s no telling when we'll breathe our last. Science may have advanced, and technological progress may be evident, but the power vested in us has no effect on defying this reality. No matter who you are, where or how you live, what your identity is, or what wealth you’ve amassed, there’s an end to it.

In the imperfect world and insane times that we are living in, let’s honor our presence and make our lives better, not just for ourselves but also for our fellow humans. We are all in this together; we are one in life and death.

  1. We are all in this together, if anything is to change for the better, it must begin with each individual, starting with ourselves.

  2. Humans are still basically animals with the animalistic instinct to survive. Humans continue to have “survival of the fittest” in our genes.Humans still react to real or perceived threats. Unfortunately until humans evolve beyond those primal reactions there will be fear, jealousy, hatred and other seemingly inhuman reactions to each other and those with different ethnicities, religious, political or cultural beliefs.
