The junk folder

It was just another usual day in the office. Sometimes I tend to browse random things online or check emails just to kill the boredom at work. Today, unbeknownst to me, I felt the urge to check out the trash and junk folders. Strange are the things we are capable of doing!!

And there it was—sitting right on top. The first email that caught my eye had a name in the subject line: Annabelle. The name should have struck a chord, but it didn’t. Annabelle, the sinister-looking doll that ran around with a dagger in her hand. I wonder if my daughter would fancy dolls if she were to see a scene from that movie.

Anyways, let’s get back to my trajectory of junk email curiosity. So I opened the email, and lo and behold—a sad narrative about how Annabelle is counting her days, suffering from an incurable cancer. So, out of the trillion or so people in the world, she found my lone email address to write to.

But she was being very generous, I must say. She offered to give away $28 million to me just like that. I mean, come on, who does that?

She also mentioned how strongly she felt that the money could be put to good use by a good person like me. I totally buy the fact that I try to be a good person, but seriously… always? Nope. Not me. She got it all wrong.

For a moment, I put myself in the shoes of the scammer. At a time where AI is starting to take hold of us and everything around us, how on earth can an email like this still be believable to someone? You could argue that’s the reason it landed in the junk folder… but hey, I’m just saying.

Also, hypothetically speaking, if one were to die soon and had amassed wealth in abundance, would this really be the path they’d take? I’d rather travel the world, eat everything and anything my heart desires, throw myself into a little madness, gather family and friends, and just lose it.

Life has to be lived to the fullest now.

Of course, sharing a portion of the wealth is indeed a noble thing. You know what I mean…

Nevertheless, the email did crack me up and made the day go by much faster. It’s not too bad after all—checking your junk folder.

Now I’m thinking… what’s stashed away in the trash?

One day, someday, I’ll tell you all about it.

Stay curious until then.
